Ship 94 – The Ark Royal

Objectives

The objectives of Ship 94 are:

  • To have fun
  • To learn
  • To prioritize teamwork
  • To be safe
  • To live by the Scout Oath, Scout Law, and Sea Scout Promise


Membership

Membership shall be open to all young adults living in the surrounding area who are 14 years of age or 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade and under 21 years of age. No prospective member shall be disqualified because of race, color, creed, or sex. All members must be registered as Sea Scouts and agree to and sign the ship code and bylaws.

Active Participation

To qualify as an active member of Ship 94, an individual must attend 75% of meetings and outings with the Ship and fulfill the responsibilities of their leadership position.

Officers

A. The elected officers shall be boatswain, two boatswain’s mates, yeoman, and purser.

B. The normal term of office shall be for six months starting on January 1 and July 1. Elections shall be held in December and June.

C. No member shall serve more than two successive terms in the same office

D. On the night of the elections, nominations may be presented from the floor by any member. If the nomination is seconded and the candidate agrees to serve, he or she must be included on the ballot.

E. Included candidates must prepare and deliver a 60-second election speech in order to be considered on the ballot.

F. All contested ballots shall be secret.

G. Nominees must be willing and able to serve in the position elected for the full term of the office.

Ship Business

Voting on all issues will be by simple majority, with the exception of changes or amendments to the bylaws, which will require a two-thirds vote of the total active membership. A quorum shall consist of one more than the majority of members for votes on routine business.

General Meetings

General meetings will be held every Monday except for the first Monday of every month. The first meeting of every month will be a Quarterdeck Meeting for planning. Special meetings may be called by the boatswain as needed.

Quarterdeck Meetings

Quarterdeck meetings will be held at least once a month, on the first Monday. Special meetings may be called by the boatswain as needed.

Media

The Media Specialist is responsible for managing and posting on the Ship Website, Facebook, and Instagram. The Ship website must be updated monthly. Information and pictures should be posted on the Ship Facebook and Instagram pages once a week.

Dues

Money Earning

Dues will be supplemented by money-earning activities involving the participation of all members. Members not participating will not be entitled to the benefits of the money derived from the activities. All money-earning projects must be approved by the skipper and meet the requirements listed on the BSA Unit Money-Earning Application, No. 34427.

Activities

At least one ship activity should be conducted each month, outside of ship meetings.
